And the google version:

Now, two days before Lucia, we have ”done” IKEA for this Christmas. It´s begun to be a tradition on Christmas Eve to first take a walk to the rock church – Theoskepasti – and then have Christmas lunch in our home together with others without family in Karystos, most Xenos of course. A lunch in Swedish style with some homemade and some IKEA -made dishes. This year, we will be around 12 people.

In IKEA we also bought  a new shelf with lots of drawers and compartments for all gadgets that gather around us. And the shelf we already had have to move one floor up and become a real bookshelf,  to – among other things – house six bags Swedish books that we have got from the book-lover Kari from Finland. Kari has lived here for many years, but will now move with his 3000 books to his daughter in Thailand.

In addition to the IKEA shelf and the carpet we bought in Athens with Petter, we have bought a big, old, homespun, Greek wool carpet in gorgeous red, blue and green colors. We have noticed that there are so many sheep and goats here, but that none produces anything from their hair or wool! When we met Peggy’s mother Noula for a coffee in Marmari, we had the opportunity to look into Marmaris small local folkmuseum which she is involved in. Among all the amazing handicraft there was a lot of carpets and I asked if someone still weaves them. Noula did not know anyone, but there were some donated carpets that were for sale. And among them was ”our” carpet! When we some days later went to collect and pay it, we met some other ”folkmuseiwomen” and sat down and talked with them for a while over juice, tsipourou and sesame cakes. Doula, a woman of my age, was praised by the others for her cuisine and in the end we were invited to cook kourkoubines with her in her kitchen! Koukoubines is a kind of homemade pasta. This will take place after the New Year and is something we very much look forward to! We’ll try to make them from Noulas homegrown gluten-free zea flour.

My Greek studies have started to give some results! I have started to relax and just speak  and on occasion I have even managed to be in a dialogue and help it to move forward! But it requires that the person I speak with is understanding and speaking slowly.

The weather has from time to time been really terrible with heavy rainfall, but in between we have beautiful days when we in short sleeves have done long hikes for up to nearly five hours. Rolf has also started to run again as the advice to buy compression stockings proved to be a success!

This is why we love to walk high for the wiews.

This tree is next to a church ruin. It has seen this church to be built, used and become a ruin - a church life and still growing!!
